Kajsa Grytt and Mohlavyr art exhibition!

Yes, this previous Saturday (28/1) Mohlavyr was invited to be the supporting act for Kajsa Grytt at "Stålboms Konditori" in Falkenberg.
This was a little bit of a risk taking for me and my cellist due to various reasons, but our duo performance and the collaboration with Kajsa Grytt turned out really well, and not to mention the warm hearted arrangers at "Stålboms Konditori"! I got truly inspired. To take part of Kajsas performance and her amazing lyrics (got to write some swedish lyrics myself now), vocals and frantic guitar playing, as well as to notice how she handled the interaction with the audience and hear the story of her carreer was really thoughtful and motivating! Thank you Kajsa Grytt! Mohlavyr is more excited than ever!



Mohlavyr makes art exhibition debut!

The 9th of February, my exhibition including paintings, illustrations, photos and videos regarding the songs on Mohlavyrs album "Fish in Trees" will officially open!
I consider this to be an experiment to try how the pictures and music will fit together. Will they complement each other? Will the visitor get a broader experience from the songs? We'll just have to try it out and see if the visions and the ideas I have had in my head during the songwriting process will be appreciated to its full extent in real life!

The exhibition will be held at "Kulturhuset" in Örebro and will stay open until the 2nd of March.

Ladies and gentlemen: the record has now been released! I hope you attended the Mohlavyr concert last Saturday? It was a complete success, and I would never have dared to believe the concert hall (in this case a cinema) would be so crowded!

Thank you everyone so much for helping me with the promotion and preparations, and a big thanks goes out to my band, the guest artists, the sound technician, Bio Roxy, the radio station P4 Örebro, Filip Fjäril for the supporting act, the photographers and of course to the lovely audience! At times like these I can really feel the pay-off from struggling so hard with my projects :) Hopefully the upcoming exhibition revolving around the record in February and the supporting act for Kajsa Grytt on this Saturday will make me feel the same way! The first art exhibition by Mohlavyr the 9th of February to the 2nd of March

The 9th of February, my exhibition including paintings, illustrations, photos and videos regarding the songs on Mohlavyrs album "Fish in Trees" will officially open!

ALBUM RELEASE THE 21st OF JANUARY!

Long time no see! (and no writing...) but I'm finally back in Sweden from my extended trip to Berlin, as well as my recent holiday in Senegal. A lot of things have happened, and a lot of plans WILL see the light of day in the very near future!

It will include all the Mohlavyr songs you've heard live during the two past years (apart from a few B-sides that I'll hold on to for a while longer!). This tremendously hard yet great work of song arrangements, recording sessions, mixing, mastering, art cover design and promotion will now, at it's completion date, be celebrated with an exclusive Mohlavyr concert at "Bio Roxy" in Örebro, Sweden, a local cinema turning as much as 100 years old this year! In honor of these amazing events I've invited musicians who've participated in the recordings of my album. I've also invited a wonderful singer/songwriter by the name of Filip Fjäril to be the opening act!

Since I will be holding this concert at a cinema, I will also strive to make the most of it.
Therefore the music videos of Mohlavyr - new ones as well as old ones - will be projected during the concert.
And when Filip, me, the band and the guest artists have finished the concert the evening continues with a movie!

But wait! There is more: A Mohlavyr art exhibition!
Since my ambition is to combine music and art, I decided that for this record I would make something out of it. I decided to continue with the project I started when I wrote my first songs, which was to illustrate, or paint something additionally expressing each song.
So this time I've made either a painting, a photo or an illustration to every song on the record, and at the 9th of February you can finally view them in all its splendor!
On the opening night, me and the band will perform some songs in acoustic versions.
The exhibition will be held at the cultural house of Örebro!

About the recent performance at Blåbärsklubben the 10th of December in Jönköping:
Mohlavyr performed at the music club "Blåbärsklubben" in Jönköping.
With us as the leading act at this event were the new trio: "For Fox", formed from the 29-members band "I'm from Barcelona".
This was a thrill to me and the band, and both For Foxes and Mohlavyrs concerts turned out to be really amusing!
A big and very special "Thanks!" goes out to the arrangers of "Blåbärsklubben" for their great efforts to advertise the event as well as giving us such a warm welcome!

The next upcoming show is another performance together with the great Flavia!
This time she has invited me to perform at an art gallery in Kreuzberg.
The set up will be pretty much like our last concert at Soupanova - we will both perform solo, but this time I have the honor to be accompanied by a great violinist named Amy Heaton. Something else worth mentioning about this extraordinary event is that me and Flavia will perform a song together. In other words there will be some surprises for you at this gig! Be there at 8pm at Galery Zeitzone located on Adalbertstrasse in Kreuzberg. Free entrance.



About the performance at Soupanova 26th of October:

A cozy environment, a beautiful stage and a focused audience. What more can you ask for? I must admit I was a bit nervous about my performance (after all, I haven't performed solo that much lately but the great thing is that every time I've done it, it has been successful). During this event I tried some piano songs that I haven't played live in a while, as well as taking the opportunity to play my new song I named "No Idea", and it was well received!
So I guess better stick to more piano songs during my next shows.

Upcoming show

Next upcoming concert is the 10th of December at “Blåbärsklubben” hosted in Jönköping, Sweden. Mohlavyr with band is booked as the opening act to the band “ForFox” which is a band formed by band members from the successful “I’m from Barcelona”.

The 26th of October, that is already tomorrow, I will perform solo at the café “Soupanova”. For this event, the great cabarets chanson pianist and singer Flavia will also attend. I am looking forward to see her and enter the stage myself and have the opportunity to try some new songs!

Currently, I am working on the final finish of the cover. The release of the album is set to January 2012! (More info about that and the following tour will be revealed later when more things have been confirmed) I also spend a lot of time to paint since I will make an exhibition that is linked to the record. How? Can’t tell you yet, but I can reveal that it is meant to display the visual parts of the Mohlavyr songs. This is a new working process for me. But the interesting part is that it is very similar to the song writing process. It really doesn’t matter if you are holding a brush or a guitar in your hand, the process is just as difficult, frustrating, amusing and challenging as usual. But the best part of combining art and music is that it gives me a lot of new inspiration!

Last friday Mohlavyr performed at the city festival "Live at Heart"
and the friday before that at the culture house "Aggershus" where the new music video was released!
At both of the events I had the honor of performing with several musicians who also joined me on the recording of the upcoming debut album.
Their participation was such a success at the music video release that I just had to invite them to Mohlavyrs following concert at Live at Heart. If I haven't mentioned it to you before I hereby declare that I have been profoundly intrigued by brass sections.
I especially enjoyed these concerts since the clarinet, the saxophone and the trumpet really gave the songs that little extra something. The musicians named Erik Paulsson, Thomas Haglund and Rickard Samuelsson can definitely expect to be asked to participate in more Mohlavyr concerts in the future!

Aggershus
The concert at Aggershus was a bit above usual since me and the band, as well as the guest artists, played the songs while the music videos of Mohlavyr were projected.
The brand new video "No One" was a challenge due to it being lip synced at certain points, but luckily we managed to sort out the performance well enough.

Live at Heart 16 sept
Last friday Mohlavyr appeared on stage for the last time in Sweden this autumn.
I had some mixed feelings about it, but mostly it pushed me into doing my best and quite literally to just: get it out, just as the name of one of Mohlavyrs songs.
Rickard who played in "Get it out" gave an extraordinary saxophone solo during the outro. I think he surprised the audience every bit as much as he surprised me!
If you missed this big moment I can gladly announce that a local swedish radio station captured it!

Take a look at the new music video for "No One"!
The release date is set to the 10th of September (already this Saturday) and will be celebrated with a Mohlavyr exclusive concert at the culture house "Aggershus" outside of Hallsberg.
For this big night I've invited several of the musicians who participated in the recording of Mohlavyr's upcoming debut album! Which means that the concert will also feature a saxophone, a trumpet and a clarinet, among many other accompanying instruments on stage!

Mohlavyr and NO ONE - the greatest performance thus far?
Lately I've been performing in different constellations; Mohlavyr with full band, full band with guest artists, duo with cellist, duo with pianist, quartet, solo with guest artists and at the most recent event: Mohlavyr with No One!

Yepp, it is true, No One sat upon stage right next to me as I sang the song about "...the love of my life", and I think the audience found out who he was..
The solo performance came as a surprise to me though. The plan was actually to perform with the full band of Mohlavyr, but after a hard struggle it sorted out happily. The solo gig with No One was, in my belief, one of my best performance so far! Since I didn't have my band members with me on stage, I let the audience join me on the accompanying and the harmonies instead. I let them sing with me to "My Walk" and it was beautiful! I also encouraged them to ride the exercise-bike as I played "Mr. Grey", and lastly a brave girl named Daniela took the opportunity!
I don't know what happened to me on the stage, but the songs came out in such a great manner and the connection to the crowd grew tighter and tighter the longer the concert proceeded. Maybe it was my determination of proving to myself that I can perform just as good on my own, that led to this success. In other words -  Mohlavyr is in good shape!

Here I and the band had the honor to be hosted by the greatest guitarist in Berlin (and the greatest I know of in Sweden)
His name is Axel Nyström and he really put energy to the songs, something I just have to do again! He can definitely be expecting more invitations to the upcoming Mohlavyr concerts!
We had a lot of fun during the concert and I'm quite convinced that the audience felt it too! Many songs were performed and the new songs "Simplicity" as well as "Get it out" was the most appreciated. Even though the debut album is not yet released, I'm already eager to start the recording and the producing of the second album!

Upcoming concert; Mohlavyr at "Eksjö Stadsfest" 27 aug 11
Next upcoming concert for Mohlavyr and her full band is at the city festival "Eksjö Stadsfest", where Mohlavyr and artists like The Ark - just to mention some, will perform! According to The Ark, it will be on of their last concerts ever! Wouldn't dare to miss that!

Gigs, tour in Berlin and recording of a music video! As you may notice a lot is happening on the Mohlavyr arena. Some information about our recent activities:

No One - Music video 30 July



The recording of the "No one" music video is finished! We filmed the scenes last saturday on a meadow location outside Gothenburg. We filmed during shiny weather with great friends, stylists and etras and amazing handmade prop costumes and dresses. I want to express enormous gratitude towards the whole team. The project went way beyond my imagination and I can't wait to see the results of the editing!

Berlin Tour 18 - 26 July

Another project that I joined recently was the German tour in Berlin with artist Waldemaar and the band "The Happy Hippo Family". During one week (18th-26th of July) we performed at different clubs and bars in central Berlin. During those days we worked on the song "A little contribution to the pop culture"´, written by Waldemaar himself. This was the original reason why we decided to do the your. Martin (Waldemaar) wanted The Happy Hippo Family to visit him in Berlin to influence his song with their sound. Later on, Mohlavyr was invited to perform vocals as join the tour.





Concert at Heidruns 17 July

The day before our journey to Berlin, Mohlavyr and the band performed at "Heidruns" in Torsby.
It was a lovely concert and I must say I was very impressed by everything our great audience went through. The rainy weather totally soaked them. But that didn't seem to bother them a bit, and that is a great compliment to Mohlavyr, isn't it?!

Upcoming gig 6 August!

Speaking of gigs, the next Mohlavyr performance is at "Örebrofesten" this Saturday.
We will have the honor to perform with guest artist Axel Nyström from Berlin. It will be terrific!

Mohlavyr really likes Berlin and that is why she will go on tour there together with the bands and artists; The Happy hippo family, Waldemaar and Axel Nyström!
At night we will give concerts and during the days we will work on the producing and recording of the song "A little contribution to the pop culture" written by Waldemaar.
The song is actually the reason why we first decided to do this tour. Martin (Waldemaar) asked The Happy Hippo Family to influence his song with their sound. And since Mohlavyr likes Berlin so much and have good concetions with both Waldemaar and The happy hippo family she was invited to join the tour and ad vocals and piano to the song. Couldn't say no to do that, could I?

On monday the tour is taking off and begins with a concert at the restaurant "Far i hatten" in Malmö! Which also means Mohlavyr will perform solo for the first time in years - I have to admit I am a little bit nervous about it but in the same time excited! In Berlin on the other hand I will have some backup from Waldemaar and Axel Nyström, just like last time!

P.S Tomorrow (18/7 Sunday) - Mohlavyr and the band will give concert at "Heidruns" in Torsby!

Since last time, Mohlavyr has participated in the competition "Svensktoppen Nästa" in Örebro and performed at the hippie festival in Säljeryd outside of Växjö.
I have mixed feelings about these concerts but some how, no matter how the gig turns out, I always leave the stage happy. To play and perform is simply pure joy for me.
But concerning my recent activities, I'd like to congratulate the reggae band "Akosia" who won the first part of the competition "Svensktoppen Nästa"! The 28th of August the final part of the competiton will be settled in Gothenburg, let's wish Akosia luck for that!
And big thanks to everyone who came to support Mohlavyr during the competition in Örebro! I'm proud for the performance even though I couldn't sing my best because of the fever and the cold, but now I am back on track!

As I mentioned earlier, Mohlavyr performed at "Säljerydfestivalen" this Sunday. (Didn't got any photos from the concert so I made an illustration instead). It was a special gig for us since it was the first time we performed with our new drummer - Henrik Jansson. YES, Simon the original drummer and hornist of Mohlavyr has decided to spend more time to compose music, which I support him fully to do, even though he will be missed... BUT this may not necessarily be the end, since he may join us when we will perform in places with room for bigger arrangements and art influences!
Henrik on the other hand is more than welcome to join the band on full time, and he has already given the band a lot of new inspiration and music influences! Curious about the sound?

That's the next gig for Mohlavyr!

Mohlavyr is back from the concert at the colorful HBTQ festival in Gothenburg. 



It felt good to play with the whole band again, especially since our performances have become much more relaxed and spontaneous lately! This time the band played a trick on me while I was changing my instruments. One by one they suddenly started to play completely different accompaniments at the same time! You can understand my surprise when I suddenly heard this mess streaming out of the head speakers! Happily I sorted it out by explaining "I think my band are waiting for me to get ready, and now I am ready".
Afterwards, when I think about it, I could have been mad, but I realized the surprising moment got me much more relaxed and it encouraged me to connect with the audience. Their clapping hands and shout outs like "play more, play more" generated a wonderful tune and I really enjoyed the performance.
Such a shame though that we didn't get the time to finish our last song, it disturbed me quite a bit, but luckily my temper switched fast when two girls came up to me and asked for my autograph. One of the girls even asked me to sign her converse shoe, you might guess it made me glad to say the least!

I'm completely exhausted but very pleased about the outcome of the two duo concerts I gave last week!

The first gig back in my hometown Nässjö at "Thimons music café" was wonderful!
It was such fun to play for friends, friends of friends as well as their family and my own! The challenges I had given to Anton (the cellist of Mohlavyr) were both amusing and impressive to experience. With many small instruments; like a toy piano, a wine glass, my fathers hunting horn and a tambourine under his foot - Anton managed to play them all as he, at the same time, played his cello! Thanks to this our concert became very amusing and I think the audience joined us in these thoughts as there was much laughter out there!

The second gig, this time with Magnus (the pianist of Mohlavyr) was also a big challenge and an experience. 
In the middle of the performance I let Magnus play one of his own songs, and I'm not exaggerating when I say he rocked the stage! I wish I had caught it on tape..
Luckily I have some photos for you in the gallery and I will definitely invite you to more performances where Magnus will contribute with his own songs.
To play with him in duo setup was a success and I'm glad I could have him backing up on vocals as well, as it fits the songs perfectly.
The theater café at "Teater Västmanland" was a great stage for us since we had a good amount of time between our sound check and the concert. During this time I took the liberty of decorating the stage using my own hand made fish, which symbolises my wish of bringing fantasy closer to reality.
This is actually what the upcoming full length album from Mohlavyr is about, and therein lies the reason why I will name it "Fish in Trees"!
Don't forget the release date set in September! I can barely wait!

My next show is at the HBTQ-festival in Gothenburg on the 4th of June.

As you may know, Mohlavyr has gotten quite used to her full band set up, but once in a while she takes on the challenge of performing in a smaller set-up.
The two upcoming concerts will therefore consist of two different duo set ups: me and my cellist and me and my pianist.

The first one up is the concert hosted in my hometown Nässjö, and, believe it or not, this is the first time! I hope to catch some well-known faces in the crowd, and perhaps even some who were there when Mohlavyr first dared to share her own songs at friends' parties (while being scared to death).

The second one up is also a premiere since it's the first time me and the pianist ever perform as a duo. The concert is hosted at the theater hall of Västerås, and there is an acoustic piano both I and Magnus long to put our hands on!

Is 'My Walk' the best song by Mohlavyr? We will soon find out what the Swedish people thinks! The song is participating in the national music competition 'Svensktoppen Nästa' among five other chosen songs.
The song the listeners like the best will be declared as winner the 21st of June at a concert hosted in the central park of Örebro. Also participating (except for Mohlavyr of course) Akosia, Civilian, Hedvig Nettelblad and Johan Bylin.
Other recent news is that the local celebrity Jasmin Kara will guest the concert together with her choir team from 'Körslaget'.

Last night we attended 'the 1st of May festival' at the cultural centre 'Underjorden'. Actually, the people and the artistic environment were beayond our expectations! We had been told that the stage was an old cinema and theatre hall, but we had no idea that it was that spacious and inviting. And the crowd made it even friendlier. While we were playing, they were dancing, or listening carefully, or sitting down, relaxing on blankets and carpets on the floor. I could hardly feel more comfortable than that! The most thrilling was however the feedback of the new songs. It is always a test to see if they work in a live session, and I think my songs managed the test!

During our visit in Gothenburg, we also had a meeting with the video producing company 'Barfota Pictures' who is going to produce the upcoming music video of the song 'No One'!
The plan is to release the video together with the album that will be released the 10th of September! Take a note on that and stay updated! - Especially this Friday when I happen to have a wonderful surprise for you...

That's right, the next one up is already this Sunday at the cultural center "Underjorden" in Gothenburg. It's been a while since the band and I last gave a concert so it will be very exciting, mostly because we are going to play new songs for you! Well met on Sunday!

Other revealing news, I recently recieved the latest mixtape of the album, and during the Easter I've been shooting even more pictures to the record cover together with my great friend and artist; Aleksi Immonen.
The process is ongoing; tough hard and joyfull. Can barely wait for the release in September!

Berlin, you really got me!
I've been visiting this popular town and big center for art, music and cultural activity for four days straight, the mission being to perform as Mohlavyr and providing support for my dear friend Martin Bengtsson a.k.a Waldemaar during his show at Joe's Bar.
The days prior to the gig we rehearsed a lot, and thus, I met Axel Nyström who were also invited to attend Martins' gig as support. Axel recently moved to Berlin and he really tried his best to convince me to do the same, and I think he might have succeded…
Anyhow, the three of us spend a lot of time to learn each others songs and to create new arrangements for them since none of us had played together before. This was a blast! It opened my eyes for new ideas and it was a challenge to perform with a smaller amount of members, since the original band of Mohlavyr couldn't follow.

The very first evening when I arrived at the airport of Tegel, I was told to take a taxi to the club "Madame Claude" and perform on the open mic night they were hosting. I had no idea what to expect,but when I got there I stepped into a cloud of cigarette smoke for which I developed some kind of hateful love. I prefer fresh air, but for the sake of music and art I learned to live with it. The night at Madame Claude was a good start aswell as a challenge for me; I played solo, which was a little scary, the reason being the general lack of solo gigs during the last two years. Martin and Axel also performed during the evening, and when not on the stage we invited people to our upcoming concert at Joe's Bar. It turned out we managed well.

On the big night I really enjoyed performing since I felt prepared, relaxed and could rely on my playing and singing much better than during the first night. Also, it was really fun to have Martin and Axel guesting me on some guitar and vocals. The audience was great, they surprised me with their attention, everyone was truly listening. When Axel opened the concert with his beautiful sound everyone was in line to the stage, and we kept them all there for the entirety of the concert. Martin a.k.a Waldemaar was amazing, and I can only describe his performance with two words; free and crazy.
These two words followed us throughout the after party where we (among many other inconceivable things) ended up in a gay bar, totally covered with pink fake fur on every wall, floor and roof!

The last day Martin took us to the greener parts of Berlin and showed us popular places and a hidden cirkus. It was a long walk, but definitely worth the aching feet and exhaustion. Now that I'm home I can do nothing else but to plan my next visit to Berlin, which hopefully will be a long one.

You might have been wondering what Mohlavyr has been up to lately?! Well, I can gladly reveal some good news: The mixing of Molavyr's first full-length album will begin this month! And the album cover is in progress! (I'm dying to tell you about the ideas, and the art craft I'm making for it, but.. I will hold my horses for now;)
